A filing cabinet is a piece of office furniture used to store paper documents in file folders. Typically made of metal, wood, or other durable materials, filing cabinets usually have multiple drawers that can be pulled out to access files. These drawers often come with small handles and may include a locking mechanism for added security. Filing cabinets are commonly used in various settings like offices, libraries, and even homes to organize, store, and manage documents for easy retrieval. They come in various shapes and sizes, with vertical and lateral options being the most common. Vertical filing cabinets have drawers that extend from the short side of the cabinet, whereas lateral filing cabinets have drawers extending from the long side.
